Today is A Safer Airport
There is a misconception that the proposed improvements will transform Solberg Airport into the next Newark International Airport — NOT TRUE! A safer airport does NOT equate to a 747 jumbo jet! The following is an excerpt from a Star-Ledger Article dated 5/21/2000 entitled "Readington should rethink plan to condemn airport" by Jack Elliott: Anti-airport groups have paraded around with signs saying "Stop the747s," as if that idea were ever proposed or even considered. It would take much more than $22 million to build a runway that could support a 747. It would require millions of dollars to provide the equipment required. And why in the world would a 400-passenger airplane want to come to a small, rural community? Residents of Readington have a better chance of seeing the Queen Elizabeth II sail up the Passaic River than they have of seeing a 747 at Solberg Airport. MYTH: The 747s are coming! The 747s are coming!
