Summer Solstice Celebration Saturday at Solberg Airport in Readington
Published: Jun 15th, 6:03 PM

READINGTON TWP. - Solberg Airport, Thor Solberg Road, will host its 14th annual Summer Solstice Celebration from 4 p.m. until dusk on Saturday, June 20.

The event is free and open to the public.

There will be a launching of hot air balloons on Saturday, June 20, just before sunset. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, June 21.

“Celebrate Summer Solstice” will be an evening of food, live entertainment, introductory flight lessons, aircraft fly-ins and static displays. The event will also feature a visit by Smokey Bear, a walk about hot air balloon and face painting for the children.

The highlight of the evening will be a hot air balloon launch by about a dozen local balloonists. The ascension will take place shortly after 6:30 p.m., wind and weather permitting.

“We're fortunate in that we get to see views like this every night,” said Lorraine Solberg. “By scheduling this community get-together, others might take a few moments at the end of their hectic week to take in the view.”

Admission is free. Those attending should bring a lawn chair or blanket.

All events are weather permitting and subject to change.

Another resident who voted in support of the bond question said it would give the township an option in case the Solbergs do try to expand their airport.

For further information, call the airport at (908) 534-4000 or visit its Web site at www.solbergairport.com.
