Today is
A Safer Airport: Did You Know???
The Instrument Landing System (ILS) that is in the master plan will make flying much
SAFER.
Since an ILS allows pilots to land straight onto the runway, they will not have to circle
around the airport, which will cut the amount homes that the aircraft will fly over, thus
reducing air noise.
Longer runways provide aircraft more area to land in case of an aborted takeoff or an
emergency.
Longer runways allow aircraft to obtain greater altitude above the airport and houses by
starting the takeoff roll further away from homes.
The rate of accidents with Instrument Rated pilots is much less than with Visual
(Non-Instrument) Pilots.
If Runway 31-13 was paved, the airport would be safer because pilots would be able to
land if the winds were out of a direction that was unfavorable for the current Runway 22-04.
If Readington Township was to condem Solberg Airport, the law states that they would
have to plow the runway of snow FIRST, before any other road.
If the improvements were completed, the size of the aircraft that could use the airport
would not increase, because the current size would be the future size of aircraft that would
land at Solberg Airport. The only difference would be that the airport would be safer for
these aircraft to land there.
Aviation represents 5% of the gross national product (21 billion dollars).
General Aviation provides approximately 250,000 jobs.
Businesses such as Merck use Solberg Airport for business reasons. For example, they pay
approximately 20% of the taxes in Readington Township.
